A traditional Siamese cat

A traditional Siamese cat

The Siamese is a breed of ancient Oriental cat, originating from the Southeast Himalayas. It is impossible to confuse a Siamese cat with any other cat because of its distinctive colouration. Pointed colouration refers to darker extremities, i.e.the muzzle and feet, and is a distinctive feature of the Siamese breed. Few people know that muzzle “mask” is characteristic of 15 more breeds of felines which have nothing in common with the Siamese.

According to Siamese cat breeders, it can be confidently said that “these are the most gentle, affectionate, non-capricious and considerate creatures renowned for their peaceful nature and self-esteem”.

Modern Siamese cats are very graceful. Their body is medium in size with long slender legs and small round paws. Their hind legs are slightly longer than the front ones. The neck is long and slender, the tail is straight, tapering toward the end. Their nose is long, and the chin is well-developed. The ears are large and wide at the base. Siamese have wide-set almond-shaped bright blue eyes. Their coat is short, soft, pretty and shimmery. The colours of the base coat and those of the coloured points are considerably different. The pointed areas of the “mask”, the tail and the legs are very dark and even.

Siamese cats are not jealous of other cats or dogs and can get along with them perfectly well. They constantly look for “a warm place”: a sunlit spot on the floor in summer, a radiator or an empty shelf in the wardrobe in winter.

This type of cats like being in the centre of attention, they adore being stroked and caressed and can stay on your knees for hours. It is a perfect pet for anybody, who needs companionship.
